If you have never heard of the Friends of the NRA you are missing out. Since it’s inception, The Friends of the NRA has had over 16,000 events, reached over 2.8 million attendees, and raised over $230 million through its wildly-successful fundraising program for The NRA. The money raised goes towards projects aimed at youth shooting programs, women’s programs, range services, education & training, hunter safety services, and The National Firearms Museum. A large part of the money will stay in the community it was raised in.

I am proud to say that I sit on the committee for Coshocton’s first ever Friends of the NRA banquet. All the counties surrounding Coshocton have their own committees and banquets to raise funds to help their county’s interests and now finally Coshocton  has their chance.

The Coshocton event will be held on April 4th and the doors will open at 5:00 pm. I can say that there will be no dull moments between the raffles, auction, and the amazing dinner that everyone is in for. Tickets are $30 and that includes your dinner. The raffles will consist of a coin game, a knife game, an ammo can game, and the standard Friends of the NRA WALL OF GUNS raffle. One other raffle that I am super excited about is called the Mystery Safe. Here is what is cool about this, the winner will receive a 45 gun safe worth well above $1000 dollars MSRP and inside that safe will be 2 guns. This is just an example of what kind of prizes you could walk away with.

The committee is also doing many pre-event raffles. We are raffling off 30 Glocks, a Ruger 1911, and various other raffles AS WELL AS A PRE-EVENT MYSTERY SAFE!!! That’s right we aren’t just giving away one safe with two guns we are giving 2. Only 50 tickets on the pre sale will be sold so if you are interested you need to move quickly. You can message me or contact the committee chairman HERE.

Of course I will be at the event making the rounds so if you would like to meet me in person this will be a perfect chance and you will be helping out a great cause! Again if you have any questions please feel free to contact me or the committee chairman HERE. You can also buy your dinner tickets online and as an incentive to buy your tickets early there is a free raffle for one of two handguns called the Early Bird Raffle for the first 200 dinner tickets sold. All you have to do is buy your ticket sooner than later.

Please share this with your friends and family. We would love to make the first ever Coshocton Friends of the NRA banquet a successful one so please help me get the word out. I would love to see everyone there and meet some of my readers from the Ohio area so jump on and get your ticket. Maybe if we get a good group we can even head out for a sit down and a beer afterwards. I hope to see you there!

This must be the week of elitist tools in the news. Let’s face it, anytime Mark Kelly comes up in the media it is usually because of some extreme doucheness and today is no exception. Gabby Giffords’ space cadet husband Mark Kelly gave a rousing speech on Feb 6th in front of Oregon’s legislature on…. you guessed it, more gun control.

Mr. Kelly climbed upon his soap box to push H.B. 1551 which would expand background checks on all firearm sales. He urged his support claiming the bill would curb crime like the egregious attack that was committed against his wife in January of 2011. Mark fails to mention that the man behind the gun used on his wife bought his weapon legally and the only thing that could have stopped the attack was a magic crystal ball but no big deal right?  Standard elitist bullshit. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!!!

After entertaining the Oregon Senate the ever hypocritical Mark Kelly went to the Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct Range for some target practice. SAY WUT?!?! Yup you heard me right.

Just to prove it is him in the photo you can check their organizations website here for the fact check. And if that isn’t hypocritical or ironic enough he is seen shooting a Glock 17 in the photos–high capacity magazines and all. (Jared Loughner used a Glock 9mm to shoot Gabby.)

Maybe I am crazy and I am letting this get to me too much? What do you think? Is this even worse than when he bought the AR-15, the very style of rifle that he was on capitol hill lobbying against? Let me know over on the Facebook page or in the comments below.

More Thoughts on the G42

I know we have been beating this dead horse for a few weeks now but there is a lot of buzz going about. There was one very interesting piece written that is a whole new perspective and way of thinking on the Glock 42.

The Mad Ogre put out a good point of view that I haven’t heard from anyone else and I never really thought about either. He does have a valid point on the trigger. Most of the pocket pistol 380s have atrocious triggers. Can Glock keep the trigger consistent? We shall see. If they can, like George said, it will make some huge ripples in the 380 market.

I still have no doubt this gun will sell seeing as it is a Glock and brand loyal shooters will flock to it. But I still stand firm that if the G42 was a 9mm it would be one of the best selling guns they have come out with in recent years. Oh well, there is always next years SHOT Show right?

Well it seems to finally be out. The Glock 42 is looking like a single stack 380. Apparently Glock has a problem with making money or pleasing their customers. I am not sure which.

And I’m pissed. Congratulations Glock you are exactly 5 years behind the curve. I don’t understand Glock’s thinking behind this. When they said the two new models coming out were going to be in direct competition with guns that were already on the market it thought they at least meant relevant ones? Way to shoot for the stars guys!

As most of you know I already have one on order because I was rolling the dice for it being a single stack 9.  I already have a LCP as a back up gun that I occasionally carry and I can honestly say that I don’t think I ever see myself carrying a 42 as a primary. That being said I will probably just use this in classes for people to demo with.  Here are the rest of the specs that have made it out so far.

So now that I am officially disappointed with Glock I have decided to boycott them until they deliver a single stack 9mm that I and many others have wanted for over a year now.

So what am I switching to? I am glad you asked! How about a little teaser to hold you over until I get a good first impression article written up.

Needless to say I have been pretty excited about the new Glock models that are supposed to be coming out around January. I am so excited that I have placed an order for the G42 without even knowing what it is. It seems a little crazy but I am rolling the dice a bit. Again I am thinking the G42 will be the single stack 9mm in direct competition with the S&W Shield. I have nothing against the Shield, my wife owns one and I sometimes carry it, but I am a Glock shooter.

Today we might have gotten a little closer to finding out what the new models are. If you remember correctly I guessed that there would be an optics ready fill size model to compete directly with the S&W CORE and the FNX-45…. well I am happy to say that I am a little closer to being right. Sportsman Depot may have jumped the gun a little bit and listed a Glock 41 in their “new items” section. The description they have is as follows…

GLOCK 41 GEN 4 45ACP 5.3 AS 13RD GLOCK

I am going out on a limb here but I am betting Glock isn’t too happy that one of their disturbers ousted them. So incase Glock makes the pull it here is a screen shot of the page….

If you haven’t heard by now there has been an odd cryptic ad going around supposedly by Glock. Here is the ad….

glock-g42

The G42 is the first weird thing for me. Glock models go in order starting at the G17 (which was actually the 17th design the company came up with but was the 1st to make it to the market) and so on up to the Glock 39 this leaves a couple spots open if they are sticking to their numerical system.

I have talked to a few people, and they are telling me what very little their Glock reps are saying, but it sounds like we are in for at least two new models. There is a lot of speculation out there. People are guessing everything from a full on Glock Carbine to a full size 22lr trainer handgun. There is a big camp that thinks it will be a 380 version since there has been import restriction on the G25 and G28 here in the US. The reason I am skeptical on the 380 idea is because those two pistols already have a spot in the numerical line I don’t see Glock reserving two more model numbers for the same pistols. And the 380 was sooo three years ago. (Except for Ruger last year who in spite of everyone else showing up with single stack 9mm’s they crashed the party with the LC380.)

Now here is where I get to give you your moneys worth and tell you what I think is going to happen. At SHOT Show last year I was extremely disappointed with Glock for not introducing a new single stack 9mm. I actually put my full displeasure out there to one of the booth workers and had a pretty good conversation with him. Knowing what he told me and considering the fact that S&W has the Shield and Springfield has the XDs I am betting on a single stacked 9mm to be making it’s debut at SHOT this year. This is my final answer. All signs point to single stack 9 for me and I’m pretty pumped about it. I am tired of enjoying my wife’s Shield so much and having to lower my standards to a Smith & Wesson when I want to carry a thin gun.

I said above that this there is more than likely two new models coming out didn’t I? Well, the single stack 9 is my educated guess pick so I I will give you one guess from left field. I think the second new guns is going to be some sort of optics ready handgun. We saw it last year with the FNX-45 Tactical and now the M&P Core I think Glock is looking towards the future of what defensive handguns might be. Keep in mind also Outdoor Channel’s show Shooting Gallery just got finished filming a show called “Zero to Hero” with trainer Gabe Suarez using all Glocks with red dots mounted on them I think this guess is out there but not too unreasonable.

For my third and final trick I give you the Glock G99…..

Hey we can always speculate right? What do you think Glock is going to unveil at SHOT this year? Let me know in the comments below.

We didn’t have a class last weekend so we decided to hit up the range and get some practice in before the next class. It was raining a little when we got there so we decided to give the new concrete in the indoor range a test run until the weather cleared up. As we progressed from drill to drill we ended up on a mag change drill and we had a little equipment failure.

Earlier in the year when things were a little crazy and it was getting difficult to find those ammo and magazines some people had to make sacrifices and pick up what they could find. My buddy ran across a deal that had two KCI mags and a mag pouch.

Mags and pouch

Mags and pouch

So far he has never had any problems with them. All his mags functioned without any issues until one met the concrete after being dropped during the mag change. Mag goes one way, spring and follower go another, and the base plate manages to escape in yet a third direction.

It turns out that the baseplates on the KCI mags are a little weak.

Good news is the fix is easy and a sturdier Glock brand baseplate will fit. So if you have any KCI Glock mags just keep in mind that you might need to keep a few extra baseplates on hand to keep a mag in the game.
