After Jan 1st Connecticut residents who own standard capacity magazines and certain firearms that the state has determined to be considered “assault weapons” are going to be considered felons if they haven’t registered these extra scary items with the state.

This is a fine example of what we get when states pass feel good laws based on emotions. What all is required to be presented in order to register?

The application requires information such as the individual’s name, address, telephone number, motor vehicle operator’s license, sex, height, weight and thumbprint, as well as information about the weapon, including the serial number, model and any unique markings.

The large-capacity magazine declaration form includes much of the same information, including the applicant’s address and driver’s license number.

Of course there is a challenge to the new law but unfortunately has not made it up for a decision soon enough so residents are being encouraged to comply and hope that the law gets reversed.

I am certain that all the bad guys are in those lines ready to register their arms so this new law is gong to ensure everyone’s safety. Right? *crickets* *crickets*

Well it seems to finally be out. The Glock 42 is looking like a single stack 380. Apparently Glock has a problem with making money or pleasing their customers. I am not sure which.

And I’m pissed. Congratulations Glock you are exactly 5 years behind the curve. I don’t understand Glock’s thinking behind this. When they said the two new models coming out were going to be in direct competition with guns that were already on the market it thought they at least meant relevant ones? Way to shoot for the stars guys!

As most of you know I already have one on order because I was rolling the dice for it being a single stack 9.  I already have a LCP as a back up gun that I occasionally carry and I can honestly say that I don’t think I ever see myself carrying a 42 as a primary. That being said I will probably just use this in classes for people to demo with.  Here are the rest of the specs that have made it out so far.

So now that I am officially disappointed with Glock I have decided to boycott them until they deliver a single stack 9mm that I and many others have wanted for over a year now.

So what am I switching to? I am glad you asked! How about a little teaser to hold you over until I get a good first impression article written up.

We are winding down the days until Christmas. Everyone is finishing up their shopping and making those last-minute shopping trips to the mall or big box stores. I just wanted to toss out another quick post on keeping aware of what is going on around you. We have covered situational awareness many times before on here and this time of the year it is even more important. Lets face it times are getting tough and desperate people will do desperate things. Just a few days ago we had a robbery at gun point in my town which is almost unheard of. There are a few quick tips for safety I wanted to toss out there today for everyone.

First when pulling into the parking lot and scoping out a prime spot try to choose one close to a light pole. Being winter the days are shorter and you have a better chance of wandering through a dark parking lot. Keeping you car under the light makes it easier to see what is around it when walking towards it and keeps you lit up as well. Criminals want easy targets and if there is a chance they are seen doing their dirty deeds by a witness or two the likely hood of an attack goes down.

Second keep your head up. The craziest thing I see when I do end up in a mall or store is the amount of people with their heads down looking at their cell phone, a shopping list, or even a receipt. If I ever have to check my phone or something while in a crowd I like to move to the side and put my back against the wall or a pillar so I only have to worry about one direction instead of 360 degrees.

And lastly listen to that little voice in your head. You know the one I’m talking about. It is the one that always pipes up when you get that funny feeling about something. Nearly all victims of violent crime start out their story by saying “I had funny feeling about ____ but I ignored it.” or something similar that line. Fear is a gift up to a certain point. For example, if you are walking to your car and there is a windowless van parked 3 spots down chances are good that the little voice inside your head is going to be shitting kittens and setting off alarms…. Don’t ignore it. And I know what they nay sayers are thinking now. “Brian you are just paranoid!” Well guess what I would rather be wrong 100% of the time when it comes to listening to that little voice than to ignore it once and find myself in a life or death situation. If you get that “feeling” listen to that little voice in the back of your head and get out-of-the-way. Let someone else be the victim.

That is all I have for you today. I was working diligently on a lengthy post covering Ohio’s HB 203 and I realized it is going to be a long one. I am actually thinking about breaking it up into a couple of parts because there is a few things I think need to be covered and a lot of stuff that I think needs said but nobody else is wanting to say. Hopefully I can get at least some of it finished up and have it for you tomorrow. Remember to like the Absolute BS Facebook page. It was bought to my attention yesterday that if you search “Absolute BS” on Facebook the blog is nowhere to be found under that search term so if you could pick a picture of article I have written and share it to make it easier for your friends to find me. Losing Control of Colorado

Posted: December 17, 2013 in Uncategorized

The ruling elite have been on a serious losing streak in the state of Colorado since passing the draconian and repressive gun that went into effect on July 1st of this year. First they lost 2 state senators in a grassroots driven recall election. Next they suffered another loss after the resignation of Senator Evie Hudak in a political chess move to save her party’s hold on the senate majority. If you want more detail on you can find it here in an article we covered awhile back.

The most recent loss has come from an unlikely place. It comes from the 55 of Colorado’s 62 sheriffs publically stating they will not enforce the unconstitutional laws passed and forced upon the state. You can read more here for yourself. I think this is a great. In my eyes our county sheriffs are the last line of defense we have against oppressive unconstitutional laws and these 55 sheriffs have proven that to me.

Back in November there was a big announcement made that didn’t make much headlines but got me pretty excited. If you follow the Absolute BS or Valkyrie Defense Group on Facebook then you probably have seen plenty of photos of me on the range sporting 5.11 Taclite Pro pants. At the risk of sounding looking and sounding like the Tacticool fan boy they by far they are the most comfortable pants I own. I generally wear them between training on the range, working in the woods cutting timber, hinting, and even while teaching. Not once have the pants let me down.

So knowing I have had such great luck with my 5.11 pants it should be no surprise that I was excited to see the joining of 5.11 with NASCAR. I usually attend at least one NASCAR race each year. (There is nothing like Bristol under the lights!!!) With this new partnership 5.11 will be utilizing their cutting edge designs and durability to design the new uniform the NASCAR Officials.

Jim O’Connell, NASCAR chief sales officer had this to say about the partnership,

“The hard-working men and women that are tasked with officiating nearly 200 NASCAR sanctioned races each year should be outfitted with uniforms that ensure optimum performance and comfort throughout the demanding 10-month race season… 5.11 Tactical has proven to be a leader in developing tactical apparel and we are proud to add yet another brand to our family of Official Partners this year.”

5.11 is now in the process of designing a complete NASCAR line of apparel and will have all their tactical (or tacticool) line on display at each NASCAR event. I am kind of excited what 5.11 rolls out and how it will transfer over into the tactical line.

Again be sure to like the Facebook page and join all the fun.

2013 State by State Scorecard

Posted: December 12, 2013 in Uncategorized

I have been doing the single father thing for this week while the wife was out-of-town on business. I wanted to get a little blurb out today about the Brady Campaign’s 2013 State Scorecards because I think it is something that shouldn’t be missed. I think everyone should take a second and see where your state falls. I will say that if your state isn’t a D or F you should probably reevaluate why? I am a little upset that Ohio is 19th overall. Arizona takes the most free of the union, while California wins the top honors of largest slave state. The one state that surprises me (and is probably completely disappointed) is New York who is coming in at a shameful 5th.

Is it strange that even before I saw the new state rankings the states that ranked the best, or with the highest score, I had no desire to even set foot inside their boundaries?

How did your state do? I think it should be Ohio’s goal next year to shoot for a D- or shoot for the starts and got right for that F!!
