Yesterday I briefly touched on the news that two Ricin laced letters were sent to Mayor Bloomberg and his pet anti-gun group MAIG. Today the rabbit hole gets a little deeper. The secret service just announced that they intercepted a letter headed to the President that was similar to the ones delivered to Bloomberg and the MAIG office.

It is safe to say that us gun owners and pro-Second Amendment supporters should be ready to once again have the burden of blame placed square on our shoulders for the acts of another lunatic. Don’t think that this will be used to once again to make a push for control because they need every bit of help they can muster. With the emotional sting of Newtown practically forgotten in America’s fast paced memory they need another boost. They have already told us that this isn’t the end. Biden is saying Senators who voted against the Manchin Toomney bill are coming around and Mark And Gabby, the gun control duo, have themselves a new foundation aimed at “responsible solutions.” This isn’t over, just wait and see.

More great news from the unarmed city of Chicago,  a grand total of 29 people shot with 6 of those dying over the Memorial Day weekend. It seems that the city without guns is once again the deadly place to be in America.

According to a recent survey 62% of people polled say that “the senate should move on to other issues.” Only 33% feel the “Senate should debate and vote on gun control legislation again.” The poll was conducted by The Reason-Rupe.  It was formed using interviews with 1,003 adults on mobile (503) and landline (500) phones from May 9-13, 2013.

I find it funny how the media makes us out to be a minority.

Ricin laced letters were sent last week to New York Mayor Bloomberg and another Anti-gun group he also funds. I truly hope that nobody from our side would attempt this type of idiocy.

The Anti-gun side thrives on tragedy and emotion. They must use all they can muster to tug at America’s heart-strings in hopes to change the minds of all the un-informed and make every gun owner in America responsible for the actions of one mad man. Well don’t bet it will take long for them to try to use something like this against us.

As the facts come in I will keep updating on the findings.

About a month ago I signed up for a VSM pistol 2 class. After completing a the VSM 1 I was eager to jump back in and see what the next class had to offer. I was told by a friend there was one coming shortly so I jumped on it as soon as it became open. I will give you a brief rundown of what to expect  without trying to give away too much of the class. I think it is only fair to the instructors and Vickers Tactical not to give away too much.

The Class was held at Tusco Gun Club which is a very fine club. I want to thank them again for having the class at their facility. I had never been there before and heard a lot of nice things about how great of a facility it was and was very happy to see all the rumors were true.

Tusco Gun Club is a top notch facility with great amenities.

Just like the VSM 1 this class was again taught by Grant from G & R Tactical and his trusty sidekick Ben. The day started out with a short safety briefing and we quickly were out on the range for our warm up test. I started the day on a high note by passing scoring 5 points higher than the first class. After the test we worked on efficient drawing.  This seems like a simple concept but if you put your draw against a timer you will more than likely see there is room for improvement. Grant did a good job of breaking it down. He pointed out one mistake I was making and it helped me pick the front sight up faster but I still need much practice. I made my fastest draw time to shoot on target ever which was 1.3 sec.(before it was 1.6). I want to touch on this in the future because this is a very important piece of the self-defense puzzle that I feel goes over looked.

After the draws we moved on to cover Turns. We all walk and turn our bodies everyday and never have to think about it but putting that in motion with drawing and firing is a whole new ballgame. I will never look and how I turn my body the same way again. I did realize one thing about myself during this potion of the class. I am left-handed and right footed. I naturally pivot on my strong foot, which isn’t a problem, it is just backwards to most people. A right-handed person usually will look over their right shoulder when searching the area behind them and lefties look over their left. I naturally look over my right shoulder instead of my left. The thing that I had in my favor is the lifetime of soccer I have played and the turn drills were much like foot work drills I was used to from years ago. I picked up on my “uniqueness” quickly and was able to use it to my advantage after a while.

Shooting and moving came after lunch. Forward, backwards, and lateral were all covered.  This is also something that very few people get to try seeing as most ranges around the country are static. Most ranges will not even let you draw from a holster anymore let alone move while shooting. Again everyone needs to experience this at least once.

The rest of the day we did drills that incorporated all the stuff previously covered. Drawing, Turns, Moving and shooting. There were some looks at pistol effectiveness at distance covered also.

I had a good day and learned a bit about myself throughout the day. I realized I need to keep using the shot timer but I need to take my shooting back further. When I go to the range I am usually shooting between 3-7 yards which is your basic concealed carry distances. If you go to a Vickers class prepare yourself for distance. I also realized I need to get myself into some form of competition shooting. When I go to the range and shoot with my buddies I am calm and never find myself stressed. When I am in a class such as the one over the weekend and I am put out in front of a group of strangers I crumble. I found myself standing there waiting for the shot timer to go off thinking “Don’t screw up.” I need to get myself more accustomed to the stress of performing in front of other. Like I told the instructor after the class, I can take a list of drills and times to the range and perform  them when it is just me and one or two buddies but when it comes to the same drills with an audience I miss the times by nearly a second. All in all it was a great class and again I learned some stuff to practice and added plenty of tips and tricks that I can pass along to my future students.

Today I am bringing the first ever guest post featured on the blog and I think it is a great one to start with. After I wrote the article Ladies: Keep Calm And Carry On I was approached by this reader. I have known her for quite a while now and had no idea that she was reading the blog let alone carrying a firearm. She told me she enjoyed the article and wondered if I was going to be contacting any of the companies I had listed. I told her I already had an email exchange with someone from Flashbang and I was waiting to hear back. She was tickled since that was the product I featured that caught her attention. Well weeks went by and I had heard no more from Flashbang even with repeated attempts to contact them. I was rather disappointed and so was she but she decided to bite the bullet and purchase one because she was dying to carry her new Sig p238. Right away she contacted me and told me she loved it. I have one rule when reviewing things and that is to use the item hard for no less than a month before I will put my stamp of approval on it. Well time has passed and she is still as excited about her Flashbang holster as the day she bought it.

As a gal who’s fairly new to the CCW world, I literally had no clue where to start when it was time to decide how I was going to carry my firearm. As far as I knew, I had a choice between a OWB holster, an IWB holster or purse carry. I decided to pick the brain of a good friend, a fellow firearms enthusiast who’s far more educated in this world than I, and he very kindly wrote a piece on his blog (Absolute BS) detailing the pro’s and con’s of various carry options (purse carry = bad choice ladies!), and offering up a few links to some woman friendly products that I should check out. Enter, The Flashbang.

The Flashbang is a thermoplastic clamshell design holster that attaches to your bra via a leather strap. It conveniently comes with 3 different size straps, allowing for multiple fit options. I picked mine up at my local range for $37.99, which is quite the steal compared to the $49.99 price tag on their website (flashbangholster.com).

Extra Straps

Extra Straps

I’ve been wearing my Flashbang as my primary carry holster for about 5 weeks, which has given me ample time to discover the positives and negatives of the product. Being a newbie in EDC, comfort level was of utmost importance for me and the Flashbang was very surprisingly comfortable. Of course this didn’t come without some trial and error. Finding the right bra is a must! One of the few negatives I’ve found is it doesn’t work properly with just any bra in your closet. Luckily for me, I have a good variety to choose from and I didn’t have to go out and buy new but I have a feeling some ladies may have to. I found that the wider the center portion the better. The extra material allowed for a more stable draw of the firearm. Also very important…the bra band! When the Flashbang is attached, it ultimately adds the weight of your firearm to the weight of your ladies. Meaning, you resort back to the golden rule of womanhood, support is key! Once the bra situation itself was figured out, I realized just how amazing the Flashbang was at being “deeply concealed”. Even under the tightest of shirts, not a single person was able to tell that I was carrying. This is a big deal as summer is right around the corner and a ladies wardrobe tends to be very minimal in warmer months, so a deep conceal option is ideal. The only other drawback I’ve come across is the fact that the days are getting hotter and carrying quite literally on the body allows for some perspiration issues. Not ideal especially for ladies, but it’s very very minimal (at least for myself personally).

Overall, I thoroughly enjoy the Flashbang. It is a standout option for women in a mainly male dominated domain. In my opinion, it allows us ladies to have a unique advantage. With any holster, it takes a little getting used to. You know that it is there but it’s one of those deals where the longer you wear it, it just becomes a part of you so to speak. It also defied my expectations when it came to easy access. I was able to get my draw time to 1.6 seconds. Not bad if you ask me 😉

Thanks again for the great contribution and I hope that we will be able to have some more reviews and articles from her in the future.

Most people want to tip toe around the issues surrounding Islam. I have never been one to bite my tongue very easily.

The news from London has no doubt reignited the fire of religious acceptance and tolerance. Our leaders and media continue to have their cake and eat it too. They play the PC card constantly desperately trying to put on a good show for the extreme radical side of Islam. Hell, they continued to pay the Ft. Hood Shooter nearly $250,000 and continue to treat it as work place violence instead of coming out and calling it an act of Terror like it was.

I am not going to call every Muslim out there a fanatic and lump them all into the same boat, every religion has their black sheep, take the WBC. They are the inbred retarded third cousin of Christianity and as a Christian every time I see them in the news I pound my head off a hard surface. I have a feeling that a lot of followers of Islam do the same thing. I am sorry but I have to say that as soon as the religion of peace starts flying planes into buildings killing thousands of Americans and chopping heads off of soldiers in the middle of the afternoon in London all I think it is time for all of us to call a spade a spade. We are dealing with the side of a religious group that has been at war, in one way or another, since the beginning of time and will not stop until all the infidels accept Allah as the supreme God or we are all dead.
